Reporting to the Head of Strategy and MI, this project-based role will stretch your problem
solving, programming and systems processing skills, while you provide solutions to our
London Market underwriting teams.

What you will be doing as a Data Science Graduate:

  • A healthy dose of common sense and the ability to think beyond the numbers in this graduate data scientist role are the foundations you’ll need to perform well in this team.
  • As a data scientist at Hiscox you will be the ‘go-to’ person for data within the London Market team, and you will be tasked with helping management make better decisions through their use of MI. You will be heavily involved in developing our MI and analytics capabilities, with plenty of scope for creating innovative data visualisations that aid decision making. The problems that this team solve are important and challenging, but hey, what’s more exciting than a challenge?
  • This is your chance to make a lasting impression! It has many unique selling points, with the most notable being the freedom to pioneer the work that you do at Hiscox! You will be given responsibility from day one, owning your own projects, you will be working with, and
  • supported by experienced colleagues, including the CEO of our London Market team.
  • If you’re still not convinced, then bear in mind that you will be one of three data scientists at Hiscox! (So you’ll be a pretty big deal).

Requirements:

Our must haves:

  • Have completed or are studying towards a BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Computer
  • Science and Maths, Computer Science and Business, or similar.
  • Basics in machine learning techniques
  • Data analysis and manipulation skills
  • Intermediate experience in a few different coding languages and the confidence to switch
  • between them, specifically; Python, R, SQL and VBA
  • Be determined to succeed in a fast paced environment and a willingness to learn about
  • the business
  • Have the confidence to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Nice to have:

  • Challenge the status quo by being logical, proactive and analytical
  • Experience with Source Control (Git)
