Careers and business support

As a Management School graduate you have access to careers support from the School and University for three years after graduation. There is also on-going support for your business and start-up needs.

Careers support

As well as access to the University's Careers Service as a graduate for three years, you also have access to the Management School's Careers Advisers, who have dedicated appointments for Management School graduates. You will also continue to receive relevant employability updates in Catalyst online and through our email updates.

We can support you for up to three years after you graduate, so please get in touch with us if you need help with your career planning.

You can use your Career Connect account as a graduate to book a 30 minute appointment with a Careers Adviser or, if you find it difficult to visit us, send an email enquiry. Book an appointment and search opportunities by accessing your Career Connect account.

Entrepreneurship and Business support

For FREE 1:1 help with your business idea, please contact our friends at Business Sheffield on 0114 224 5000 or email businesssheffield@sheffield.gov.uk stating that you have been referred by the University of Sheffield.

Through this, you will be able to access:

  • An appointment with a Business Start Up Advisor to talk through your idea in the first instance
  • A workshop programme for Start Up businesses to allow you to understand if your business idea is a viable one
  • A business workshop programme, covering everything you need to know about running a business
  • Access to a Business Advisor for ongoing advice and support to help you grow your business
  • Opportunities to meet and network with other like-minded individuals
  • A quarterly business network event with 100 businesses present

Start-up Visa

Start-up Visa is a route is for new and recent graduates of the University of Sheffield who wish to develop a credible, scaleable and innovative business idea and develop their entrepreneurial skills in order to establish a business in the UK. If you have a business proposal, you can compete to join the scheme.

If you are successful, and endorsed by the University, you will be able to apply for a Start-up visa for 24 months, during which time you will have the opportunity to develop your new business idea.

Graduates who meet the eligibility criteria below are invited to apply for a Start-up visa endorsement.

  • Non-EEA national students/graduates who have graduated from/will graduate before March 2020 from the University of Sheffield
  • Students/graduates who have recently been awarded/or will be awarded before March 2020 a University of Sheffield degree (Bachelors, Masters or PhD).
  • Students/graduates who have a genuine, credible business idea
  • Students/graduates who meet the current Home Office Immigration Criteria for the Start-up visa (this will be checked by the International Adviser at the Student Advice Centre if you are shortlisted.)

The University will NOT accept applications from students/graduates of other universities.
