The Department of Urban Studies and Planning would like to employ a Design and Planning student to work with Dr. Bobby Nisha and Bryony Olney in undertaking a small project on embedding augmented reality in learning and teaching.

About the Role:

The Department of Urban Studies and Planning are looking to recruit a 12 month placement student. This is following on from two successful years of having a 12 month placement student. The role supports a range of activities clustered around Employability and Placements, this includes supporting in the delivery of employability and placement drop in sessions and some taught sessions, developing the employability and placements module content on MOLE, communications with current students and placement administration, to alumni and external profile and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with colleagues across the Department’s Professional Services team as well as with academic staff across USP. You will report into the Placement, Employability and External Relations Manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Assist with information and communication flow to current students of employability and placements matters via social media, newsletters, emails, MOLE, etc
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the employability, employer and alumni webpages on the USP site
  • Assist in the setting up of Module Evaluation from students.
  • Assist with the promotion of placement and employability events to students, staff and external stakeholders - e.g. Alumni Networking Event, Careers Fair
  • Assist with the administration of student placements, including contacting employers, supporting on placement briefings, checking students CV’s and Covering Letters, communicating with students to ensure that they have completed the correct forms and liaising with employers to ensure the correct paperwork is completed. Ensuring that the Health and Safety Database is updated. Ensure that students are engaging with social media campaigns whilst on placement and that all paperwork is completed at the end of the placement
  • Assist on the promotion, delivery and development on the Employability Module. This includes helping to get students to complete the careers questionnaire for the finding to then be implemented across the employability and placement work in the department
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a record of employers and opportunities, including developing ways that employers engage with the department. This includes helping to arrange, promote and deliver employer talks as part of guest lecturing and enrichment.
  • Assist with alumni engagement in the department through communications and events, via email, social media, etc, including supporting in the gathering of alumni case studies and alumni data gathering at graduation days. The role will lead on reporting to the central Alumni team which alumni has engaged with us and how
  • Assist with developing and maintaining the USP Graduate Network page on LinkedIn and developing Alumni engagement with the department
  • Assist with the collection and recording of careers destination information
  • Assist with minute taking in departmental meetings especially with the student and staff committee, producing documents prior and after meetings
  • Lead on the department Green Impact project with support from colleagues. The department is pleased to hold the gold rewards for this

Requirements:

Please note that you MUST be an Undergraduate student at September 2018 and the placement should take place in between Level 2 and 3. Applicants should be on track of obtaining a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) and must be eligible to work in the UK. Students studying in USP are not eligible to apply for this placement in their home department.

We are seeking an Undergraduate student to join us who has the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills –fluency in English, with good grammar and spelling
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with experience of responding efficiently and effectively to phone and email enquiries
  • Can demonstrate an interest and skills in marketing and communications
  • IT systems knowledge, including Word, Access, Excel, MOLE from a student perspective and email, plus experience of using social media. Knowledge of websites and producing newsletters would be advantageous.
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines
  • The ability to work effectively as a member of different teams
  • Can assimilate complex information, maintain confidentiality and work to a high level of accuracy
  • Can work independently and use initiative and judgement in decision making
  • Has the ability to learn quickly, be adaptable and work flexibility to responding changing demands
