About the Role:

This OnCampus placement will provide a prospective student a great practical insight with academic integrity and its importance for students in their academic studies.

You will be expected to closely collaborate with the Unfair Means team in Management School comprising of two Unfair Means Officers and members from the administration team. Every year, the Unfair Means team deals with approximately over 200 reported cases of unfair means across various forms of assessments. Through these interviews there is much evidence to support the need to improve the students understanding of what academic integrity is and how important it is for their assessment.

The diverse cohort of students that study on the degrees within SUMS create challenges because of the differences from their home country and what is required at Sheffield. We currently provide some support for students but the student is becoming more sophisticated with what they do and many more are purchasing essays to support their studies. Consequently, there is a need to re-develop our support.

You will work with the two Unfair Means Officers and Communication Officer to develop the material available in association to the key areas and themes that have been discovered that create students the most problems and those areas that could be developed by students to ensure they are produced creditable and authentic work. These outputs need to be to SUMS branding.

Anticipated role breakdown:

  • 20 hours - Review current material available for Academic Integrity within SUMS and in the library
  • 5 hours – Create a list of remaining activities that require developing and prioritise their creation/development
  • 75 hours - Produce a suite of tools including help guides, videos, top tip guides, etc that can be used by students to develop their understanding
