Based within our Direct to consumer business, this graduate scheme is a two year programme with five rotations. The aim of this programme is to provide the successful candidates with the skills to become general managers within the world of insurance. Both graduates will carry out a number of rotations across the business, to gain the core understanding of each department, developing well- rounded individuals with a vast array of future career paths within Hiscox.

Core Rotations:

  • 6 months - Marketing
  • 3 months - Finance
  • 6 months - Team Leadership
  • 3 months - International secondment
  • Options (The graduates will be allocated to one of the below)
  • 6 months – Underwriting
  • 6 months - Project Management / Service Improvement Marketing

As a retail business, marketing is key to our success and is one of our strategic pillars. A detailed knowledge is vital to get a wider understanding of the business. This rotation may lead you into the heart of our brand and how we bring this to life or the complexity of how we acquire customers through an online presence – either way, a great opportunity to amerce yourself in this critical arena. This rotation will be based in York, but with frequent travel to London

Finance: In order to become a rounded leader in the future it is essential to get a financial grounding into the running of the business and understand the complexity required to create and grow an organisation. This placement will be project based and the detail will be determined closer to the time. This rotation will be in the Finance team located in either London or Colchester.

Team Leadership: People management is one of the toughest skills to master, yet possibly the most important. This scheme will give the candidate the skills and experience in managing a sales team. Working initially as a deputy team leader, expect to deal with any number of people related issues.

Underwriting: An introduction to Insurance, what we do, how we protect our customers and how we determine a price. This is six month rotation, focusing on either our home insurance or business insurance book and will include study towards the Chartered Institute of Insurance’s professional CII Certificate qualifications.

Project Management / Service Improvement: Based in the York office, this rotation will provide a solid knowledge of change and how to successfully achieve it. Working in either our Project Management or Service Improvement team, the opportunity to work on implementing changes to either our system or processes to ensure efficiency.

The Graduate Programme:

Our two year graduate programme is challenging and varied. With a range of roles in a variety of locations, the programme is designed to enable you to learn about the business whilst discovering and developing the skills and knowledge that will help you build the foundations for a successful and rewarding career.

Working with highly skilled, motivated and ambitious colleagues creates an ideal environment for you to achieve your aspirations. We will support and encourage you to complete the Chartered Institute of Insurance’s professional qualification (ACII), you will take part in workshops to develop your technical and business skills and you will collaborate with others on meaningful business projects. You can sign up for our inclusive mentoring programme where you can not only benefit from being mentored by a more experienced colleague, but also mentor others who could benefit from your skills and perspective. We offer participants on our graduate programme the opportunity to view the company from a range of different perspectives by undertaking two six-week domestic secondments and a twelve-week international secondment to one of our offices in Europe, Singapore, the USA or Bermuda. The purpose of the secondments is for you to broaden and deepen your skills and knowledge whilst contributing to the success of the business.

Applicants to the graduate programme are expected to:

Be available to join the programme in September 2018

Speak and write in fluent business English

Have the right to work in a permanent position in the UK.

Have achieved, or be on track to achieve a 2.2 or above (or equivalent) in your degree

Have grades B or above in GCSE English and Maths and 300 UCAS points from your top 3 A-levels (not including General Studies), or equivalent
