Graduate Business Consultant at Hiscox

Where: England - Colchester

Deadline: December 31, 2017

Type: Graduate

About Hiscox UK and Ireland:

Hiscox UK & Ireland is a leading brand in the insurance market, recognised as setting the standards others try to emulate. We consistently deliver strong growth and exceptional returns, recruiting only the very best and empowering them to deliver. We are known for insuring the homes of the rich and famous through to the most innovative technology companies. Our customers are diverse and unique and are only united by our ability to provide specialist insurance tailored to their needs.

About the UK Change team:

Every medium or large project in the UK is managed by the Change team, from its inception to final delivery into the business. These changes can range from new products aimed at increasing our top line growth, to large IT replacement projects to enhance our technology capability or keeping us compliant with the latest regulations. The improvements these changes deliver will all contribute to cementing our position as a market leading specialist insurer.

The role:

Over the course of your placement you will have the opportunity to work alongside other Change professionals (Project Managers & Business Analysts) as well as lead your own projects. Our previous graduate Business Consultants have benefitted from the support of their colleagues as well as the autonomy to tackle something meaty, early on in their placements.

One of the main challenges will come from balancing more than one initiative at a time, getting to grips with the many ways we do business in the UK & trying to understand what all the acronyms mean! It’s a great opportunity to interact with multiple parts of the business, understand what makes it tick & see the fruits of your labour become reality as change embeds itself into business as usual.

What you’ll be doing as a Business Consultant:

You will be working as a Project Manager or Business Analyst, helping to shape new ideas to grow or protect our business. The work typically involves working closely with a variety of business teams such as underwriting or finance & bridging the gap between the business and IT to help deliver technology change that helps the business achieve its goals. Over your placement you will develop a heightened commercial awareness & gain a defined set of skills in project management and business analysis. All of which will stand you in good stead whatever direction your career takes you.

Our must-haves:

  • Change is not a scary word to you. You thrive in organisations that constantly adapt and evolve
  • You enjoy a fast paced and varied working day where you are given the freedom to voice & exercise your own ideas
  • You have a collaborative working style where to be successful you need to draw the best out in others
  • You’re not frightened by detailed data or process analysis, then switching to a high level project plan or pulling a senior management presentation together

The Graduate Programme:

Our two year graduate programme is challenging and varied. With a range of roles in a variety of locations, the programme is designed to enable you to learn about the business whilst discovering and developing the skills and knowledge that will help you build the foundations for a successful and rewarding career. Working with highly skilled, motivated and ambitious colleagues creates an ideal environment for you to achieve your aspirations. We will support and encourage you to complete the Chartered Institute of Insurance’s professional qualification (ACII), you will take part in workshops to develop your technical and business skills and you will collaborate with others on meaningful business projects. You can sign up for our inclusive mentoring programme where you can not only benefit from being mentored by a more experienced colleague, but also mentor others who could benefit from your skills and perspective. We offer participants on our graduate programme the opportunity to view the company from a range of different perspectives by undertaking two six-week domestic secondments and a twelve-week international secondment to one of our offices in Europe, Singapore, the USA or Bermuda. The purpose of the secondments is for you to broaden and deepen your skills and knowledge whilst contributing to the success of the business.

In a nutshell, our graduate programme provides a combination of practical experience, training, and the opportunity to work alongside highly regarded industry professionals – all designed for you to fulfil your potential. We are on the lookout for intelligent, commercial thinkers who can make a real contribution to our business and share our values of courage, quality, excellence in execution, integrity and human. If you have the spirit to bring these values to life, and want to work for a company that will challenge you from the start we want to hear from you.

Applicants to the graduate programme are expected to:

  • Speak and write in fluent business English
  • Be available to join the programme in September 2018
  • Have the right to work in a permanent position in the UK.
  • Have achieved, or be on track to achieve a 2.2 or above (or equivalent) in your degree
