Engage on campus

Alumni are an inspiration to our students, providing first-hand knowledge and guidance about your experiences so far, nothing compares to hearing it from those who were once Management School students themselves. That’s why at the Management School, we encourage alumni to be involved in our student employability activities including guest speaking, career talks, skills sessions and workshops, mentoring and volunteering.

Guest speakers

Alumni and business practitioners sometimes lead a session to students that is part of a module on a programme; this can be on one of our undergraduate programmes, our specialist Masters courses, or on the MBA programme. These sessions tend to be in a specialist subject area lasting around 30-40 minutes plus 15-20 minutes at the end for questions.

Students are interested to hear from alumni who work in specialist roles and are keen to learn how to start marking out their own careers in a particular area. As alumnus this an opportunity to inspire current students sharing your own journey, providing practical knowledge and advice about a career in your specialist field.

Career talks

Our Management School students want to hear from alumni who are doing the jobs that they want to do. They want to listen to your story about what you did after graduation, how you got promoted, the risks you took and how they paid off. We aim to bring into the School a range of alumni professionals, to provide insight into your own careers, to our undergraduate and postgraduate students. Talks can last about 30-40 minutes with 15-20 minutes at the end for questions, but the format can be tailored to meet both yours and the needs of the students.

Students are interested to hear insights from alumni about your current role and the organisation you work for, your career to date, and any advice you would give to today's graduates applying to work in your organisation. We welcome alumni at any stage in your career from across the business sectors, to talk to our students about your own career journey so far.

Workshops and skills sessions

At the Management School, our Employability Team delivers a range of activities to help prepare students for the application process. This includes a range or workshops and sessions focussing on elements such as application forms, CVs and covering letters, interview techniques and assessment centres. Sessions provide students with knowledge and techniques, as well as being practical and interactive to enable students to practise elements of the application process.

We welcome alumni who may be employers and recruiters to help deliver sessions, working with our Employability and Careers Teams, to give students practical experience of the different elements of the application process. These can be interactive games as part of a mock assessment centre activity, examples of application forms, psychometric tests, and a chance for students to practice their interview techniques. Sessions can vary in format but can be tailored to suit both yours and the needs of the students.
